Bountiful Fortifications

Bountiful Fortifications are the defensive works built around the city of Bountiful under Teancum’s direction by Moroni’s orders. Teancum caused the Lamanites to “commence laboring in digging a ditch round about the land, or the city, Bountiful” (Alma 53:3).

He caused a breastwork of timbers to be built on the inner bank of the ditch, and dirt from the ditch was cast against it. The Lamanites encircled Bountiful “with a strong wall of timbers and earth, to an exceeding height” (Alma 53:4).

Moroni did not attempt another battle with the Lamanites that year and employed his men “in making fortifications to guard against the Lamanites” (Alma 53:7).
