Food

Food is nourishment obtained and eaten by people. Nephi and his family went forth “to slay food for our families” and traveled for many days, “slaying food by the way” with bows, arrows, stones, and slings (1 Nephi 16:14-16). After Nephi’s bow broke and the other bows lost their springs, they could obtain no food and suffered for want of food (1 Nephi 16:19-21). Nephi later slew wild beasts on a mountain and obtained food for the families (1 Nephi 16:30-32).

Amulek received Alma into his house and brought forth “bread and meat and set before Alma”. Alma ate bread and was filled, then blessed Amulek and his house and gave thanks unto God (Alma 8:20-22). Men prepared for war provided food for their armies, and cattle, oxen, cows, sheep, swine, goats, and other animals were “useful for the food of man” (Alma 53:7; Ether 9:18).
