Legal Profession

Legal Profession is the work of lawyers “hired or appointed by the people to administer the law” during trials of crimes before judges. Lawyers were “learned in all the arts and cunning of the people” so that they might be “skilful in their profession” (Alma 10:14-15).

Zeezrom was among the lawyers and was “the foremost to accuse Amulek and Alma,” having “much business to do among the people.” The stated object of the lawyers was “to get gain,” and they received gain according to their employ (Alma 10:27-32).

Later, lawyers were among those angry with people who testified, and no lawyer could condemn anyone to death unless the governor of the land signed the condemnation (3 Nephi 6:21-22).
