Marriage is the taking of a wife or being “given in marriage.” The Lord told Lehi that his sons should “take daughters to wife,” so that they might “raise up seed unto the Lord in the land of promise” (1 Nephi 7:1).
Nephi took one of Ishmael’s daughters to wife. Nephi’s brethren also took Ishmael’s daughters to wife, and Zoram took Ishmael’s eldest daughter to wife (1 Nephi 16:7).
The people were “married, and given in marriage,” and they were blessed according to the Lord’s promises (4 Nephi 1:11).
