Night Operations

Night Operations are actions carried out at night by Teancum and by Gidgiddoni’s armies. When night came, Teancum and his servant “stole forth and went out by night” into Amalickiah’s camp, where fatigue had overpowered the sleepers (Alma 51:33).

Teancum entered the king’s tent privately and “put a javelin to his heart,” causing Amalickiah’s immediate death without waking his servants (Alma 51:34). He returned to his camp, awoke his men, and ordered his armies to stand ready (Alma 51:35-36).

Gidgiddoni sent out Nephite armies “in the night-time” to cut off the robbers’ retreat and march beyond them (3 Nephi 4:24-25). On the following day, the robbers met Nephite armies in their front and rear, and many thousands yielded themselves prisoners (3 Nephi 4:26-27).
