Poisonous Serpents are serpents that came forth “upon the face of the land” and “did poison many people.” Flocks fled before the poisonous serpents toward the land southward, called Zarahemla by the Nephites (Ether 9:31).
The Lord caused the serpents to “pursue them no more” and to hedge up the way so that people could not pass. Those who attempted to pass might fall by the poisonous serpents (Ether 9:33).
In the days of Lib, “the poisonous serpents were destroyed.” People then went into the land southward to hunt food for the people of the land (Ether 10:19).
