Ridding the garments is the stated purpose of removing others’ sins or blood from one’s garments. Jacob came into the temple “that I might rid my garments of your sins,” with the purpose “that I might declare unto you the word of God” (Jacob 2:2). Jacob and his brethren labored with their might so that the people’s blood “might not come upon our garments” (Jacob 1:19).
King Benjamin assembled his people because he sought to “rid my garments of your blood” before going down to his grave (Mosiah 2:28). “These things are written” so that the writers “may rid our garments of the blood of our brethren” who had dwindled in unbelief (Mormon 9:35). Moroni said that all men would know before the judgment-seat of Christ that his garments were “not spotted with your blood” (Ether 12:38).
