Wood is a material Nephi worked when he “did make out of wood a bow” and made an arrow “out of a straight stick” before seeking food (1 Nephi 16:23). Nephi taught his people “to work in all manner of wood,” along with iron, copper, brass, steel, gold, silver, and precious ores (2 Nephi 5:15).
Jarom’s people became rich in precious things and in “fine workmanship of wood,” as well as buildings and machinery (Jarom 1:8). King Noah ornamented buildings with “fine work of wood,” and his palace and throne were of fine wood ornamented with gold, silver, and precious things (Mosiah 11:8-10).
In the land northward, people allowed trees to grow so they could have timber for houses, cities, temples, synagogues, sanctuaries, and other buildings (Helaman 3:9-11). During the darkness, fire could not be kindled with “fine and exceedingly dry wood” (3 Nephi 8:21).
